Brief on the peacebuilding and conflict management training for women-led Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Jubaland state of Somalia

Introduction


Link for Solutions Consulting was contracted by the Social-Life and Agriculture Development Organization (SADO), Somalia to conduct peacebuilding training
needs assessment, develop relevant curriculum content and deliver the training program in the four districts of Dhobley, Dollow, Garbaharey and Kismayo,
Jubaland State of Somalia.

The training program was funded by the UN Peacebuilding Fund through ACTED International and Implemented with SADO-Somalia. The peacebuilding training for WLCSOs in the four (4) districts in Jubaland State of Somalia was organized by SADO and delivered by Link for Solutions Consulting.

The aim of the project was to enable women-led CSOs to lead self-designed local peacebuilding and conflict resolution initiatives in South-Central Somalia. To do so, the project provided peacebuilding capacity to four targeted women-led CSOs in Jubaland.
The interventions were designed to support the women-led CSOs to conduct a peacebuilding campaign within their respective communities, while conducting a regional awareness campaign on the role of women in social cohesion.
In addition, the project worked on strengthening the links among women-led CSOs and provide them with knowledge and skills to analyze conflicts and develop peacebuilding or conflict resolution activities.

Training Needs Assessment and Curriculum Content Development

The development of the curriculum content of the peacebuilding training for the four (4) target women-led CSOs in Jubaland was informed by the findings and recommendations of the peacebuilding training needs assessment conducted by LINSOL through desk review and participatory FGDs with the targeted WLCSOs. Based on the peacebuilding training needs assessment, five (5) training modules was developed by Link for Solutions Consulting to address the main identified training needs and existing gaps for the target WLCSOs in the target districts of Jubaland.
The five (5) developed and delivered training modules were:
• Module 1: Conflict Analysis and Context Understanding
• Module 2: Mediation, Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding
• Module 3: Advocacy and Policy Influence
• Module 4: Conflict Sensitivity
• Module 5: Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and Trauma Healing

Skills and Knowledge Imparted to the Participants

The specific skills or knowledge imparted to the participants and outcomes of the
peacebuilding and conflict management training included:
• Increased understanding: Participants gain a deeper understanding of conflict dynamics, root causes of violence, and the importance of Peacebuilding and Conflict Management.
• Skills development: Participants obtained practical skills in context and conflict analysis, conflict resolution, negotiation, mediation, dialogue facilitation, and other relevant areas to effectively address conflicts in their respective areas.
• Increased capacity: built the participants’ capacities to address conflicts peacefully, enabling them to effectively contribute to conflict prevention, management, and resolution.
The overall outcome of this training program was geared towards the prevention and transformation of conflicts, fostering sustainable peace, and encouraging WLCSOs to take an active role in building peaceful societies.

Conflict Analysis and Conflict Resolution Road-Map

In addition to the above, ss a post-training activity, after the training workshops LINSOL provided the trained members of the Women-led CSOs with technical support to develop conflict analysis and capture the conflict dynamics in their respective districts and, based on the conflict analysis, develop conflict resolution roadmap for each respective location utilizing the knowledge imparted, skills and tools acquired from modular peacebuilding and conflict management training program. These post-training activities were very useful both in order to put into practice, as well as, evaluate the skills participants acquired through the training.

Development of Peacebuilding Campaign

Furthermore, Link for Solutions Consulting supported by developing a peacebuilding campaign for the target Jubaland WLCSOs. In response to the unique challenges faced by the WLCSOs in Jubaland, LINSOL proposed a comprehensive peacebuilding campaign aimed at empowering and unifying WLCSOs in Kismayo, Garbaharey, Dollow, and Dhobley Districts. This initiative seeks to foster collaboration, resilience, and sustainable peacebuilding efforts within the targeted communities
